POINT01

Sanuki Udon and Vegetarians

Sanuki udon broth is usually based on "iriko" (dried sardines), so take care if you avoid seafood. "Kijoyu udon" (with soy sauce only) and "kamatama udon" (if eggs are OK) use no broth and are available at most shops, and some shops use kelp broth. Ask when ordering: "Dashi wa iriko desu ka?" (Is the broth made from iriko?)

POINT02

Vegan, Gluten-Free and Halal

"by age 18" in Mure-cho, Takamatsu, is a plant-based, gluten-free and halal-friendly Sanuki udon shop using rice-flour noodles. Near Takamatsu Port there are cafes serving brown-rice curry and veggie plates, and around Kawaramachi Station there are Indian and Nepalese restaurants with plenty of vegetarian dishes.

POINT03

Olive Cuisine on Shodoshima

Plenty of vegetable dishes made with olive oil. There are also olive somen noodles and temples serving Buddhist vegetarian cuisine.

POINT04

Prayer and Allergies

JR Takamatsu Station has a prayer room. Major tourist facilities hand out multilingual allergy cards.
